The Suppliant Women at the Young Vic, SE1.
A strong cast of young local women underlines the enduring relevance of this play 2,500 years on.
Sometimes it feels as if nothing ever changes. “Stop male violence,” implore the women in this stunning ritual drama, a plea for succour, justice and equality. Written by Aeschylus 2,500 years ago, it’s a bulletin from ancient times that speaks with electric urgency to our own. Adapted by David Greig and directed, in an ATC co-production, by Ramin Gray, it’s heart-stopping, hypnotic and profoundly stirring.
