Experience Once Again… (Statues Never Die), a five-screen installation by British artist Sir Isaac Julien, on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia until February 16, 2025! This black-and-white film examines African art’s role in Western museums and the profound connection between collector Albert C. Barnes and Harlem Renaissance philosopher Alain Locke.
Through poetic images and meticulous archival research, Julien reimagines the impact of Locke’s activism on Barnes’s inclusive vision for art education, illuminating the intricate dialogue surrounding modernism, African art, and the legacy of colonialism.
Works by Sir Isaac Julien are also part of Deutsche Bank Collection
