To Feature Chinese Pianist Lang Lang
With the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla right around the corner, the BBC has announced the world-famous stars joining in on the celebratory Coronation concert.
Among those joining the lineup include singer-songwriters Paloma Faith and Tiwa Savage, rock ‘n’ roll singer Steve Winwood and pianist Lang Lang. That’s not all – Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs, Pete Tong Ibiza Classics, Vula, JERUB, and the winner of The Piano, Lucy wil,l all join in on the festivities. Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor will take a step back from the music and give a spoken word performance.
While they might not necessarily sing, some big-screen names are joining in the fun including Tom Cruise and Dame Joan Collins. Winnie the Pooh will get a chance to shine like his fellow bear, Paddington, did at the Platinum Jubilee concert in 2022.
Sir Tom Jones, Bear Grylls OBE, and Oti Mabuse will join Tom Cruise, Dame Joan and Pooh in a number of pre-recorded sketches and segments unveiling little-known facts about The King. Maybe we will also get a few fun facts about Queen Camilla mixed in.
The new list of stars is in addition to the previously announced performers including Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, Take That, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, Alexis Ffrench, and a collaboration of five different royal patronages.
The concert is set to take place Sunday 7 May on the grounds of Windsor Castle. It will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer as well as BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
The concert is set to kick off 8pm. The BBC is allowing a special one-off TV licence dispensation for the Coronation. This waives the need for a special licence to broadcast the Coronation and the concert to large groups in a public setting.
