In 2011 the KT Wong Foundation was honoured to be the sole foundation partner supporting renowned conductor Sir Daniel Barenboim and his West Eastern Divan Orchestra’s first tour of China.
Universally acknowledged as one of the greatest pianists and conductors of our time, Barenboim, along with the late literary scholar Edward Said, created this orchestra of young musicians from widely divergent beliefs with the express aim to promote intercultural dialogue through music. Their efforts echoed the Foundation’s goal to support meaningful cross-cultural collaborations in the arts.
During the tour, the KT Wong Foundation commissioned a documentary team to film the orchestra.
The resulting effort will be a documentary on the state of classical music in modern-day China with all the different cultural influences. It is scheduled for release in late 2012 and will bring this sensational tour to new, global audiences.
