The KT Wong Foundation together with The Beijing Music Festival presents the second in the series of Masterclass: In Conversation with Daniel Kramer English National Opera’s Artistic Director to discuss his work and showcase iconic productions of the English National Opera hosted at CHAO Sanlitun on 24th October. (20th October 2017, Beijing) The KT Wong Foundation, leaders in developing and delivering new and exciting cultural exchanges between China and the west since 2007, will present the second Masterclass: In Conversation in partnership with the 20th Beijing Music Festival.
As part of the programme of supporting events at the 20th Beijing Music Festival, Masterclass: In Conversation with Daniel Kramer, followed by the first China screening of Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes from the English National Opera will be part of the celebration of the KT Wong Foundation’s 10th Anniversary. This will be a unique opportunity for audiences in China to hear from one of the most exciting stage directors of our time and learn about some of iconic productions of the English National Opera.
Mr. Kramer, the Artistic Director of the English National Opera, is an internationally recognized opera and theatre director. His work is known for its striking visuals and emotional intensity. In the conversation with Lady Linda Wong Davies, the founder and chairperson of the KT Wong Foundation, he will discuss his work and present some of the most iconic productions from the English National Opera over the years. After the masterclass, a screening of Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes from the English National Opera directed by David Alden will be presented.
The masterclass series will offer a unique opportunity for listeners to understand the complex creative functions within opera and learn from the greatest masters what is needed to create productions at the very highest level. It will also be an insight into the relevance of opera in today’s world, and how it continues to be an important reflection of society.
The Masterclass: In Conversation was conceived by the pioneering KT Wong Foundation, an organization that has led the way in delivering boundary-pushing cultural, artistic and educational exchanges between China and the west since its launch in 2007. To celebrate its 10thAnniversary this year, the Foundation has launched a series of events that will act as a catalyst for innovative creative ventures that bring together artists in different disciplines and cultures as the Foundation has been doing for the last decade.
Lady Davies said: “I have long been an admirer of Daniel Kramer’s work and I was determined to share his amazing creativity with lovers of opera and theatre in China. The Foundation is proud to present this event with Daniel, which offers real insight into his process for both audiences and artists. And we are excited to present the screening of Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes from ENO to the audiences in China for the very first time.”
The masterclass will take place with the kind support of CHAO Sanlitun at 11.00am on the 24th of October followed by the film screening of Peter Grimes at 1.00pm.
