Shanghai Symphony Orchestra’s recording of Aaron Zigman’s Émigré has been nominated for an Opus Klassik award, shortlisted for World Premiere Recording of the Year!

‘Émigré’, an oratorio in two acts with music by Aaron Zigman, which was carefully developed over a period of five years, deals with a little-known chapter of the Second World War: the reception of Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe by the inhabitants of Shanghai in the 1930s. It tells a story in which kindness and love triumph over destructive historical forces. The oratorio has a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Campbell, with additional lyrics by Brock Walsh. It is the fifth project to emerge from DG’s exclusive and fruitful agreement with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Long Yu. The recording was released digitally earlier this year, and now “Émigré” is released on CD.
