In November 2008, the KT Wong Foundation participated in the inaugural Sino-European Cultural Summit at Ditchley Park, Oxfordshire. The summit was supported by one of China’s leading broadcasters, Phoenix Television, and was devised as a high-level, confidential forum for leaders of the most prestigious arts and cultural institutions in China, the UK and the EU.
Held at Ditchley’s private country estate, the meeting saw acute interest from both China and Europe in each other’s performing arts.
Guests discussed challenges common to both Chinese and European institutions, including developing performing arts in the digital age; balancing commercial and cultural imperatives; bringing contemporary Chinese culture into the global mainstream; building the infrastructure necessary for the promotion of performing arts in the competitive field of culture; and harnessing the opportunities and risks of globalisation.
