The KT Wong Foundation is proud to present a season of opera screenings at this year’s Shanghai MISA Festival. Screened for the first time at the new Shanghai Symphony Hall – Elektra, The Nightingale and A Midsummer Night’s Dream – these screenings are the result of the KT Wong Foundation’s initiative and support in bringing together these top opera productions from Festival d’Aix with the MISA Festival in this new and exciting collaboration.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten will be the First Delayed Live Screening in China of an opera from a major European festival to be screened within days of its public broadcast in Europe.
The screenings will take place at the new Symphony Hall between 14thand16th July.
A Midsummer Nights Dream is directed by the well-known opera director, Robert Carsen, whose hugely popular Ring Cycle by Wagner was presented at the Shanghai Grand Theatre during the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
Lady Davies, founder of the KT Wong Foundation, says: “The KT Wong Foundation is excited and proud to bring the screenings of these top productions to Shanghai and notably the First Delayed Live Screening to China. A Midsummer Nights Dream was broadcast on 12th July on TV France and will shown in Shanghai on 16th July. We are very pleased to bring this exciting collaboration to China in partnership with the MISA Festival.”
On reaching out to Chinese audiences, Bernard Foccroulle, Director of the Festival d’Aix, said: “China is rich in strong and ancient traditions…combining theatre, voice and music. We are witnessing today an increased interest in western opera, and the opening of many theatres. The Festival d’Aix…is naturally inclined to take part in this exciting opening and wishes to take this opportunity to reach out to new audiences and new artists.”
